Upcoming Event: 2013 Regional Conference of the IGU

From August 4th to 9th 2013 the International Geographic Union (IGU) will hold their 2013 Regional Conference at the International Conference Center in Kyoto. There, at the birthplace of the famous Kyoto Protocol, geographers from all over the world (theoretically – personally I expect a majority of fellows from Asia, hence the “Regional” in the conference name) will gather to discuss, exchange and network for 6 days. The theme of the conference is “Traditional Wisdom and Modern Knowledge for the Earth’s Future”, and what country could be better suited for this dialog between old and new than Japan, where this opposition can be observed everywhere and all the time.

Upcoming Event: JpGU Meeting 2013

From May 19th to 24th the Japan Geoscience Union (JPGU, 日本地球惑星科学連合) will be holding their annual meeting at Makuhari Messe near Tokyo. Just like in the past two years I will also be attending and presenting there. This year I will speak in session H-TT09 “GIS”, starting from 14:15 on Monday, May 20th. AAG 2013: Spatial Methodologies for the Analysis of Vulnerability in Urban Areas

This is the slide set for my presentation at the 2013 Annual Meeting of the AAG in Los Angeles on April 9th, titled “Spatial Methodologies for the Analysis of Vulnerability in Urban Areas”. Upcoming Event: 2013 Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers (AAG)

From April 9th to 13th 2013 the Association of American Geographers (AAG) will hold their 2013 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles. The business centers of three hotels in downtown LA (Westin Bonaventure, LA Downtown Hotel, Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles) are being prepared to host more than 6,000 sessions about all topics related to geography. Have a look at the preliminary program posted on the AAG website to get an idea of the breadth of topics covered.

Upcoming Event: 5th Annual Meeting of the Japan Association on Geographical Space (JAGS)

I am very pleased to announce that I will be presenting about my ongoing research about Spatial Terrorism Vulnerability Analysis at the 5th Annual Meeting of the Japan Association on Geographical Space (JAGS) on Saturday, June 30th 2012. The conference will be held at the Tōkyō Campus of Tsukuba University. The location is Ōtsuka 3-29-1, Bunkyo, Tōkyō (東京都文京区大塚3-29-1). For further details please refer to the conference website (in Japanese). This is a great opportunity to introduce my research to an (almost) exclusively Japanese audience.
